In the Lifelong Learners program, senior students 65 years or older may enroll in one academic course of up to four credit hours being offered that particular semester tuition-free*. Lifelong Learners attend class with Ole Miss students on any UM campus. Sound a bit scary? It’s not! Lifelong Learners, faculty, and students alike love it-and it’s so easy!
* Includes base tuition only; online course fees, special class fees and/or any non-resident fees are not included.
The Lifelong Learner Scholarship covers base tuition for one course in the fall semester, spring semester, and the combined summer sessions. The scholarship is not available for Winter Intersession, May Intersession, or August Intersession.
1. Complete an application for admission at least 10 days prior to the beginning of the semester. No transcripts are required unless you are pursuing a degree. (If you are a continuing Lifelong Learner, skip this step and go on to Step 2 below.)
2. If you are taking a class on campus, on the day classes begin, go to the
Registrar’s Office in 104 Martindale Student Center on All-American
Drive to register for your class.** Enrollment is on a space available basis.
After you have registered for class in the Registrar’s Office, you will be
confirmed for the scholarship. You are now registered as an Ole Miss
student and can attend class!

3. If you wish to have your own Student ID, you may go to the Student ID Center on the south side of Johnson Commons near the Chapel at your convenience. Your card will be active once you have registered for your class.

Sign up for an independent study course! Study at your own pace and on your own schedule. Enrollment in independent study courses is open to all interested persons at any time during the year.
Online courses operate synchronously-or in step-with the University’s academic calendar and include students from a variety of places and experiences who learn together in Web-based courses. The University of Mississippi offers excellent support services: access to Web support specialists, electronic bulletin boards, e-mail accounts, library resources, and instructional guidance. We are committed to your success as a learner, and that means preserving as much as possible the complete classroom experience, even though the class is delivered in a different manner.
Courses offered through Independent and Online Learning are fully accredited through the University of Mississippi.

It’s global connections and incredible creatures. That’s why the University of Mississippi created The Academic Traveler, faculty-led adventures that promise fun but so much more. Trips typically consist of one week and are offered several times during the year. Program costs include lodging, tours or other trip-related fees, and ground transportation. Sample themes include City Arts: New York, New York; Florence: A Culinary Adventure; and On Photographic Safari in Tanzania.

The Southern Studies Brown Bag Series seeks to highlight the richness of the Southern environment by exploring cultural events, history, music, food, and all things Southern. The Brown Bag Lunch and Lecture Series takes place each Wednesday at noon in the Barnard Observatory Lecture Hall during the regular academic year unless otherwise noted.

Every semester and during the summer months, the Division of Outreach and Continuing Education offers classes and workshops in a variety of areas. The options are always interesting and fun. You can find yourself mastering the tango, the computer, and your time in one semester! Current class listings can be found here.
Located in the E.F. Yerby Center on Grove Circle at University Avenue, the Division of Outreach and Continuing Education is open year-round (excluding University-observed holidays). Several options for registration are available: Internet, fax, mail-in, walk-in, and phone. Please see program specifics. Our regular hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Registration continues until the date your class begins except where noted. For fax, mail-in, and Internet registration, please allow enough time prior to class starting time to process. All programs have limited enrollment and are filled on a first-come basis. You must register before attending class, and, by enrolling early, you ensure your place in the class of your choice.
Fees are due at the time of registration, whether by mail, fax, phone, Internet, or in person. Payment may be made in cash or by check, money order, or credit card (Visa or MasterCard). Fax, phone, and Internet registrations must be made by credit card. Please do not send cash through the mail.
Persons 65 years of age or older can take as many noncredit short courses as they like at a 10 percent discount on any course with a fee of $26 or more. If the fee is $25 or less, senior citizens must pay the full course fee. The fee for senior citizens is subject to the divisional refund policy. Please note that the discount must be requested at the time of registration. Only one applicable discount per course. Senior discount does not apply to online courses.
Classes with insufficient enrollment may be canceled. Students will be notified at least 24 hours
before the first class meeting. Because telephone contacts must be made during the day, please
supply your daytime phone number or one where a message may be left for you. The Division
of Outreach and Continuing Education reserves the right to cancel, postpone, limit enrollment,
split or combine classes, and change instructors and class locations when necessary.
Registration fees are refunded for Professional Development and Non-Credit Education
courses in full when: 1) the class for which an enrollment was submitted is full, 2) the class
is canceled by the University, or 3) the University rejects the enrollment application. A student
who withdraws before the first class meeting will receive a refund of registration fees
less $10. Withdrawals must be submitted in writing and postmarked or received 48 hours
prior to the first class meeting. A student who withdraws after the first class meeting, but
before the second, will receive a refund of 70 percent of registration fees. In no case, however,
will the 30 percent retained by the University be less than $5. Withdrawals must be submitted
in writing and received prior to the second class meeting. Fax withdrawals will NOT
be accepted.
